There is / There are with a/an and some

Use 'there is a/an' for one item. Use 'there are some' for more than one item.

There is a sofa in the living room.

There is an old table in the kitchen.

There are some chairs near the window.

There are some pictures on the wall.

My Flat

I live in a small flat in the city. There are three rooms: a bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom. There is also a living room. In the living room there is a sofa and a television. There are some plants near the window. My kitchen is small but there is a nice table for two people. I love my flat. It is comfortable and very quiet.
