I would like / Would you like

Use 'I would like' to order or ask for something politely. Use 'Would you like' to offer something.

Dinner at the Restaurant

Mark and Lisa are at a restaurant. The waiter gives them the menu. Mark is very hungry. He would like a steak and chips. Lisa would like a vegetable soup and a salad. The waiter writes their order. The food arrives quickly. It is delicious. They drink orange juice and water. After dinner, the waiter asks: 'Would you like a dessert?' Mark says yes. He orders chocolate cake.
